Oscar Emmanuel Peterson was a Canadian jazz pianist and composer. He was called the "Maharaja of the keyboard" by Duke Ellington and was a member of jazz royalty. He released over 200 recordings and won seven Grammy Awards, just to name a few of the many awards and honors he received over the course of his career. He is considered to have been one of the greatest pianists of all time, playing thousands of live concerts to audiences worldwide in a career lasting more than 65 years.
Night Train was recorded in Los Angeles on December 15th and 16th 1962. Originally released by Verve in 1962, and redistributed by Polygram in 1973, it was one of Peterson's most commercially successful recordings.
